Sledding Hills

Wisconsin winters provide a beautiful backdrop for creating memories of sledding down favorite hills during a snowy day. If you're looking to get the kids out of the house and enjoy some much-needed fresh air, then grab your sleds, bundle up, and head on over to one of these local hills around Dane County:

  • Elver Park - 1250 McKenna Blvd, Madison, WI 53719
One of the area's most well-known sledding destinations, Elver Park has the tallest sledding hill in the Madison area, and it's even lit up in the evening. The park also has a warming shelter where you can purchase sleds for $20 or rent them for $2 an hour. The shelter is open Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. Always make sure there is a good snow base before sledding!

  • Sanatorium Hill - Madison, WI 53704
The second biggest hill around Madison is Sanatorium Hill. This is one of the best sledding locations on the north side of the city. What makes it especially unique is it's also the site of a former tuberculosis treatment center that is rumored to be haunted. The top of the hill has spectacular views and lighting during the evening hours. The hill is moderately steep in certain areas. Sanatorium Hill is just a short drive away from these Madison homes for sale.

  • CamRock County Park - 2334 Highland Rd, Cambridge, WI 53523
Located along the banks of Koshkonong Creek and near several Cambridge homes for sale, CamRock County Park has a sledding hill that is 450 feet long and great for younger kids. The hill is accessible from the Shelter 3 entrance near Highland Road. It's just a short walk from the parking lot. The park also offers a playground and a shelter, both of which can be used in the winter.

  • Indian Lake County Park - 8183 WI-19, Cross Plains, WI 53528
One of the largest parks in Dane County, Indian Lake County Park has a spectacular sledding hill right next to the Scoutcraft Log Cabin warming house. The hill itself is easy and short—it's only about 200 feet long. After sledding, be sure to check out these Cross Plains homes for sale just a short drive away.

  • Liberty Park - 1201 Cox Dr, Mt Horeb, WI 53572
This is a fantastic sledding spot for families with kids near Mount Horeb homes for sale. Liberty Park is small but well-maintained and has an easy-to-moderate hill that is great for beginners. The park even has a sled station where you can borrow one.

  • Sheehan Park - 925-1375 Linnerud Dr, Sun Prairie, WI 53590
This beautiful park is one of the largest around Sun Prairie homes for sale. Sheehan Park has a great sledding hill. There are also restrooms and plenty of benches nearby, and the hill is fairly close to the Sheehan East Shelter, across from the Aquatic Center.
