Date Night in Wisconsin

The holiday season might be over, but Valentine's Day is right around the corner. When you live in the Madison area, you'll enjoy plenty of restaurants and venues perfect for a date night. Get date night inspiration with these local businesses.

  • Sur La Table - 712 N. Midvale Blvd., Madison, WI 53705
If you consider food to be your love language, improve your fluency with couples cooking classes at Sur La Table. In their Date Night classes, a professional chef guides you step-by-step through the preparation of a full gourmet meal based on the evening's theme. For example, a recent session titled "Luxe French Dinner" included seared scallops, pommes Anna, haricots verts, and poached pears. Upcoming themes include "Winter in Paris" (1/31), "Beef Wellington Feast" (2/8), and "Sushi Bar" (2/22). The fee is $99 per person.

  • The Canopy Sessions - Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704
Longing for a tropical getaway? Enjoy the next best thing at the Canopy Sessions. The stunning Bolz Conservatory at Olbrich Botanical Gardens serves as the setting for these musical evenings. More than 650 colorful plants and flowers, a live waterfall, and free-flying birds create a suitably exotic ambiance. Celebrate Valentine's Day with the Latin beats of Rebulú, listen to the "spooky folk" musical tales of the Spine Stealers (3/7), and soak up the energy of alternative rock band the Racing Pulses (4/11). Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and tickets are $12.

  • Lone Girl Brewing Company - 114 E. Main St., Suite 101, Waunakee, WI 53597
Leave the rest of the world behind and snuggle up inside a rooftop "Cozy Dome" at Lone Girl Brewing Company. With an electric fireplace, fleece blankets, and mood lighting, the Cozy Domes live up to their name. Indulge in some stargazing as you stream your personal playlist on the Bluetooth speaker or relax around the rooftop firepit. A dedicated server takes your food and beverage orders from the taproom's menu. Reservations for 90 minutes are available from Tuesday through Saturday, with start times between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Price includes a $100 reservation fee along with any food and drink purchases.

  • Tenney Park - 402 N. Thornton Ave., Madison, WI 53703
Glide around the ice hand-in-hand at beautiful Tenney Park. The rink is actually a frozen lagoon, providing a classic feel of skating outdoors surrounded by what has been referred to as "storybook scenery." There's a separate rink for hockey, so you won't need to watch out for flying pucks. Warm up with a break in the adjacent shelter that includes a concession stand. Hours are 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, noon - 8 p.m. Saturday, and noon - 6 p.m. Sunday. Availability is dependent on weather conditions, so be sure to check beforehand. There's no fee to use the rink, and skate rental is offered for $6.

  • Comedy on State - 202 State St., Madison, WI 53703
Studies show a link between shared laughter and healthy relationships. Humor is in generous supply at Comedy on State, where top national and regional comedians bring their popular stand-up acts to the stage. Test your own comedy chops during Wednesday open mic night, or sit back and listen to some undiscovered talent. Servers are on hand to take your orders from the full selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Visit the website for schedule and ticket prices.
