Art Events March

Spring is a season that has inspired artists for centuries. So it's fitting that this month features plenty of art and culture to enjoy around Madison. Whether you're in the mood for a live show, a captivating concert, or the chance to see outstanding exhibits at local museums, you're sure to find something. Here are some must-see exhibits and performances this month around Madison.

  • A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical – Overture Center, 201 State St., Madison, WI 53703
    The Overture Center is an excellent place for live concerts, musicals, and plays. A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical tells the tale of Neil Diamond's rise from a Brooklyn kid to an internationally-known music superstar. There are seven chances to see the show from March 19-23, 2025, including special matinee performances on March 22 and 23.

  • Madison Symphony Orchestra: Legacy – Overture Center, 201 State St., Madison, WI 53703
    March also brings an opportunity to see the Madison Symphony Orchestra on stage, with two special shows on March 14-15, 2025, both starting at 7:30 PM. Madison Symphony Orchestra: Legacy is a performance highlighting the legacies of Richard Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring the final songs that both famed composers created. Compositions include Strauss' Don Juan and Four Last Songs, along with Mozart's Requiem in D Minor.

  • Madison Museum of Contemporary Art – 227 State St., Madison, WI 53703
    Next up, is one of our free admission museums with a wide variety of permanent and new exhibits to see. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA),  is focused on modern and contemporary art, featuring a diverse range of American art as well as a special Mexican Modernists collection. Be sure to tour the special exhibits this spring, on display through April 6, 2025. Bird and Blossom features a selection of Japanese kachō-e woodblock prints from the museum's permanent collection, Green Over Grey: The Art of Adaptation features works by Dane County high school artists, and the museum's annual Young at Art exhibit delves into the work of young, emerging local artists from kindergarten through 12th grade.

  • Chazen Museum of Art – 750 University Ave., Madison, WI 53706
    Located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, the Chazen Museum of Art is free to visit and open to the public. Stop by for one of their special Sunday Tours or Curator Conversations, which discuss the latest exhibits at the museum. The big spring exhibition here is The Crafted World of Wharton Esherick, highlighting his unique, interdisciplinary works from an artistic career that spanned 7 decades. This exciting exhibition will be on display through May 18, 2025.
