There are plenty of great campgrounds in the Madison area, whether you're in the mood for resort-style camping with activities for the whole family or more rustic, rugged campsites where you can truly immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Wisconsin. Here's more on camping destinations near Madison for all of your outdoor adventures.

  • Lake Farm County Park – 4330 Libby Rd., Madison, WI 53711
    If you are looking to camp within Madison city limits while still enjoying nature, Lake Farm County Park is a great option. There are 47 campsites here, including 39 sites with electricity and RV hookups, as well as eight non-electric campsites. The park, covering 345 acres in total, includes a fishing pier, wildlife pond, paved trails, hiking/cross-country skiing trails, a boat launch, and an observation tower. 

  • Brigham County Park – 3160 County Hwy. F, Blue Mounds, WI 53517
    Planning a camping outing with a larger group? Many of the parks in the Madison area have a limit of 6 people or 2 tents per campsite, with only a few campgrounds equipped with sites designed for larger groups. Brigham County Park is one location that's great for group camping trips, with large campsites that can accommodate group outings. While you're camping here, explore the trails, plan a picnic, enjoy the extensive athletic facilities, or find a quiet spot in nature for some prime wildlife viewing.

  • Babcock County Park – 4601 Burma Rd., McFarland, WI 53558
    Love spending summer days near the water? Then Babcock County Park might be just the place for your next camping trip. It features 25 campsites, all with electricity and available for tent or RV camping. The park has a boat launch (permit required), canoe/kayak launch (no permit needed), fishing pier, and access to Lake Waubesa. Kids will love spending time in the designated play areas and enjoying s'mores 'round the campfire.

  • Capital Springs State Recreation Area – Beltline Hwy., Madison, WI 53703
    Located just minutes from downtown Madison, Capital Springs State Recreation Area is another excellent option for a camping trip on Lake Waubesa. This park features tons of outdoor activities, including boating, canoeing, and kayaking from the boat launch that's open year-round. You'll also find great fishing, including a designated area for kids age 14 and under. Other popular activities include hiking on 6 miles of nature trails, biking on the Capital City State Trail, or spending family time at the spacious picnic and playground areas.

  • Madison Campground – 4859 Co. Rd. V, DeForest, WI 53532
    How about a resort-style campground, designed specifically with RVs in mind? Madison Campground is located just outside of the city, with dedicated RV campsites that offer all of the amenities you'll need to enjoy your stay. Don't have your own RV? You can rent one for the night and experience the RV lifestyle! They've also got cabins and tent campsites, along with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
