McFarland is a popular southeastern bedroom community in Greater Madison. Just minutes from the beltline, the village has great views and is an easy commute to Madison or the Interstate.

Bordered by Lake Waubesa to the west and Mud Lake to the south, McFarland is along the Yahara River channel that connects to Madison’s Lake Monona. Here you'll find all types of water activities.

The flow from the Yahara River makes Mud Lake one of the first shallow lakes to open in spring and therefore a premier spot for waterfowl. You may see many species of ducks, swans and geese.

Those preferring the land can walk, run or bike the 2.5-mile Lower Yahara River Trail. The elevated portion runs for nearly a mile, making it the state's longest dedicated bicycle bridge and boardwalk.

The $8 million trail opened in 2017 connecting Lake Farm County Park in Madison with McDaniel Park in McFarland. The trail crosses Upper Mud Lake where it flows into Waubesa.

McFarland is now commutable to Madison by bike. The Lower Yahara River Trail connects to the Capitol City Trail and the vast network of bicycle trails throughout Greater Madison.

In 2016, a donation of nearly 114 acres of family land created the Morton Forest County Park. The park has steep hills, lush valleys and beautiful views with tranquil hiking trails open year-round.

Maple Bluff is known for its stately residences that populate some of the most scenic parts of Lake Mendota.

Youth sailing and windsurfing are taught to help focus on water safety. The Madison Youth Sailing Foundation provides weekly classes with the support of the village and private donors.

Maple Bluff Country Club dates back to 1899 making it one of the oldest and finest golf clubs in Wisconsin. The course is known throughout the Midwest for its beauty and challenging layout.

The Maple Bluff Country Club is a cornerstone of the community also offering tennis courts, swimming and diving, and both casual and fine dining.

In 2017, Bear & Bottle brought West coast flavor to the Bluff. With five large roll-up doors, a metal ceiling, reclaimed wood & brick from the old Pabst Brewery, the upscale pub is now a Bluff favorite.
